Accordin to the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) thousands of candidates arrived late for their examinations today or failed to write at all. This is all being blamed on the chaos of the latest lockdown which came into effect today (5 January 2021). This so happened to be also the day on which ZIMSEC examinations were supposed to resume.
There was a lot of confusion at several checkpoints this morning as some people were not exactly sure what documents they needed in order to be allowed through. Those turned away had to go home and get additional documentation resulting in them arriving late for the examination or being denied entry into the center because they had arrived after the deadline.
It’s not yet clear how many candidates were affected. It is however more likely that private candidates would have been the most impacted as they tend to have no uniform especially if they are adults who are rewriting their examinations.
