Yesterday President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared coronavirus a national disaster. This allows the government to marshall resources and implement emergency measures that might impinge on people’s freedoms but prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection if it does eventually cross into Zimbabwe.

What I will say is what is formal – that’s what the government position is. Schools will close in two weeks. We shall allow them to run unless something drastic happens.

Certain school events might no longer be possible

Based on the measures announced yesterday, certain school events are no longer possible. The president banned public gatherings of more than 100 people which might mean no more assemblies and church for most schools.
