Students from St Charles Lwanga, a school in Chimanimani went through a torturous ordeal. When cyclone Idai struck Chimanimani it caused a rockfall near the school. Rocks rolled and struck the dining room destroying it. The rocks also struck one of the rooms in which students were sleeping killing two.
Due to inaccessible roads the students and their teachers had to walk for 15 Km to Skyline. The painful journey was undertaken in at night pitch darkness as they carried the bodies of their fellow comrades. The students had spent time marooned on a mountain as they sought refuge from floods.
There will be a need to ensure these St Charles Luwanga pupils that endured unimaginable trauma get psychological care. What they witnessed and endured will break any adults, let alone children. Let's all unite as we support those who have taken the brunt of #cycloneidai pic.twitter.com/mihEu8GBDA
