A letter from Riverton Academy, an elite school in Masvingo has set tongues wagging as it proposes eye-popping figures for next term’s fees.

Dear Parent,s/IGuardiatifs, RE: TERM 3 2019 AND AUGUST VACATION FEES

In view of Statutory Instrument (SI) 42 of 2019 in which the Zimbabwean dollar was made the sole legal tender in any transaction in Zimbabwe. It is common knowledge that the Zimbabwean economy is now in turmoil. Whatever commodity is not in short supply is priced well beyond the reach of many and prices continue to rise every day as traders continue to chase the USD exchange rate.

Schools have been forced to raise their fees especially boarding schools which have to source scarce basics such as mealie-meal, bread, sugar and fuel.

When it comes to raising fees though, Riverton Academy isn’t exactly shy. In fact, they can be quite brazen and outspoken about it. Last time when parents complained about another school feeds hike they were told to go hang.
