Harare magistrate Magistrate Barbara Mateko issued an arrest warrant for ARTUZ president Obert Masaraure after he violated his bail conditions.

Mr Masaraure is a teacher at Chemhanza school in Hwedza and doubles as the president of the vocal and outspoken Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe which is embroiled in a labour dispute with the government.

The state led by Prosecutor Sebastian Mutizirwa produced two letters from the deputy and headmasters from the school where Mr Masaraure works to show that he had not been reporting for work.

The authorities had gone looking for him there because he had not reported to the police as part of his bail conditions. He is being accused of attempting to subvert a constitutionally elected government after he allegedly told people to protest.

According to the prosecutor, the accused had failed to present himself on the 7th and 14 of June prompting authorities to look for him at his workplace. He was however nowhere to be found. Prompting the magistrate to issue an arrest warrant for him.
