Machines

• A machine is a device that makes work easier either by:
• Reducing the effort (force) required to lift the load or
• By changing the direction in which the effort is applied
• Machines enable humans to accomplish tasks that would otherwise be impossible

• Basic machines include:
• Levers
• Pulleys
• Inclined planes
• Gears
• and the wheel and axle
• More complex machines are built from a combination of these simple machines
• For example :
• A car combines basic machines such as wheels, axle,gears and levers
• Machines are a part of everyday human life
• Examples of more complex machines are:
• Cars
• Bicycles
• Wheelbarrows etc
