### ZIMSEC O Level Combined Science Notes: Experiment: Ohm’s Law

• It gives the relationship between potential difference and current through a wire in a circuit
• According to the law:
• $\text{potential difference}\propto\text{current}$
• The current passing through a wire is proportional to the potential difference across its ends
• Provided the temperature remains constant
• An equation can thus be formed:
• $constant\dfrac{\text{potential difference(V)}}{\text{current (I)}}$
• Resistance-is the constant
• It is a measure of how difficult it is for a current to flow through the given wire
• It is measured in ohms
• The symbol Ω is used to represent ohms
• Ohms law can be expressed as:
• $\text{R =}\dfrac{V}{I}$
• V is voltage
• I is current
• R resistance
• By substituting the formula the equation can be used to find unknown variables where two of the variables are known
