Fuel service stations have gone back to their “old” prices of $4,97 per litre for petrol and with diesel selling at $4,86 per litre. There was a lot of confusion and panic on Tuesday as a lot of service stations hiked their prices to almost $8. This caused some of them to close as confusion reigned supreme.

Inevitably this supposed hike led to kombis hiking their prices as well. Even yesterday evening after it became clear that there was no price hike kombis were still demanding fares as high as $6 per trip.

A lot of shops also adjusted their prices to reflect this new “reality” and cooking oil disappeared in most of Harare’s supermarkets. Other basics such as sugar also appeared to be in scarce supply.
